Soul Moves Sunday All-Dayer 27th July

Soul Moves All-Dayer

Sunday 2th July

The Hartwood, Chorley

After the dissapointment of having to cancel the first Soul Moves BBQ, I am delighted to announce that on the 27th July, we have a confirmed licence for an all day Soul BBQ that can run from mid day til 10pm outside on our fantastic covered terrace.Delivering the soul music on the day will be a fantastic line up of djs who will cover the full spectrum of soul music.

Fitzroy da Buzzboy

Vastly underrated, yet well-respected "Da Buzzboy" Fitzroy span his first tune in 1985, and by 1986, he had co-founded the formation of "The Buzzboys" crew, with 5 other like-minded Jazz-funk fanatics. The "Buzzboys" were successful in holding down residencies in several of London's top nightspots, (Limelight and Oxfords), where they span a combination of 70s and 80s Jazz, Funk, Soul and Rare Groove.Fitzroy's natural flare on the decks, combined with his daring dress sense, soon set him aside from his fellow Buzzboys, and at the end of 1989 few were surprised to see him go solo. Thereafter, he became known as "Da Buzzboy" Fitzroy, and counts amongst his peers and playing partners, present day giants like Paul Anderson, Trevor Nelson, Soul II Soul, Norman Jay and the Jazz Funk legend George Power.Since then, Fitzroy has become a true member of the soul fraternity and his name is synominouus with all that is good taste in quality soul music spanning the full spectrum. Fitzroy has played the Southport Weekender and is a regular feature at London's Jazz Cafe. Who Fitzroy hasn't dj'd for and doesn't know in the world of soul music is negliagible, and now he makes his Chorley debut Fitzroy is a true gentleman who when I asked if he would come up to Chorley to play, hardly hesitated before saying "yes". Who knows what records Fitzroy will bring to the north. His knowledge and taste is without question. This can be found in his excellent magazine The Soul Survivor published every three months and has a huge circulation in the soul cognoscenti.Check out Fitzroy at his myspace :http://www.myspace.com/dabuzzboyfitzroy

Mike O'Mara

We are glad that Mike can make it back after us cancelling the first Soul Moves. Mike needs no introduction round these parts. Making his Chorley debut , Mike is having a busy summer playing many guest sets around the Manchester area. As a resident of Manchester night Development, Mike was in charge of back room operations and was the provider of all thing soul, funk, disco and hip hop. Its these condererable talents that Mike brings with him to Chorley and we will give him plenty of time to stretch out musically and spin thru the genres and dring a few beers in the sun Mike is no stranger to soul heartlands of Lancashire, in fact he started off in charge of back room duties at massivly successful local night On A Plate. Mike dj-ing has taken him to London for regular appearances at Soul City. As Development resident, Mike played alongside many of the world's top djs.For a flavour of what to expect from Mike, check out the excellent mixes on his myspace. Mike can play across the genres effortlessly and he is a man who knows his soul music.

Geoff B

Geoff played our first event here in Chorley and his love and knowledge of soul music made him the obvious choice for Soul Moves resident. Geoff is a well known figure in the soul fraternity in Manchester and at the first Soul Moves night, he played across the genres, from 2step to rare groove, from funk to 80s boogie, from classic soul to the latest neo-soul that would make the Funkbase shake at the Southport Weekender. Geoff can play it all with a deep underlying authoritive groove.Geoff has returned to the decks after sometime and has played at the Mint Lounge at Nothern Disco and he has done some really excellent mixes which can be found at his blog Pass The Feeling On. Check out his latest mix which is all Mizell productions.

Chris E

Chris is from Bolton, so will easily find Chorley. Chris steps up to the hallowed decks in Chorley once more to bring his distinctive style to the party. Chris is omnipresent in the Manchester clubbing scene and is resident at excellent Sunday session Out Of The Gloom at Dry Bar. Check out the excellent OOTG website and their lively forum. Chris is equally at home playing house as he is soul, funk and hip hop.Chris recently rocked the back room at Mo-Ho Live at the fourth Yellow reunion, and undoubtably played the set of the night. Not bad to say other djs on the night were Bob Jones and Dave Haslam. Recently, Chris rocked Mo-Ho once more at the excellent Community night and also at the Sweet Sensation parties.

The Soul Moves Family

A rather grand title for friends who will contribute their own take on soul music to Soul Moves events. From funk to balearic soul from jazz funk to modern and Northern, the djs will provide dj support on the all dayers and post up their mixes, drink the beers and hopefully help set up the decks and sweep up the terrace afterwards (only joking guys ). We are pleased to have playing on the day the following :

Tall Sarah

Sarah has been clubbing since 1982 and buying records for even longer. She has been djing for two years and recently rocked a big crowd at Bearded Theory festival. Sarah loves music from the 80s so expect a different twist on 80s soul, disco and disko not disko. From Barry White to Shalamar, from the latest Italians Do It Better 12", from the SOS Band to The Dynamics, Sarah will certainly add a fair measure of style to the day.Sarah has recently done an excellent mix Disko Not Disko which can be heard at :

Tony Morris

Tony"spaceface"Morris is a regular on the Last Rites forum, an Electric Chair regular, a superb graphic designer and one of Manchester's best up and coming Balearic DJs. He is part of the Bears, a collective of djs, boozers and schmoozers who present the excellent Bears Upstairs radio show every Thursday from 10pm to 12pm on http://www.unityradio.fm.The Bears can be found every first Friday at Jam Street in Chorlton djing in Manchester's most intimate venue. Tony can also be found playing across the city of Manchester and has played several times at Out Of The Gloom. Its impossible to say what Tony might play. From Afro to acid house, from 80s pop to electronica, Tony just might pack it all.

Kwame

Last but no means least, we welcome Kwame. He lives just up the road from The Hartwood and is a man who really does know his soul music. Kwame loves house music as well, and if you have been to the Southport Weekender, you will know Kwame permanently out there with his camera taking some of the best photos of seemingly EVERY party and every dj too. Kwame can spin the tunes too as his excellent mixes testify. From listening to his mixes, I reckon he will put a very modern twist in the mix.Check out his excellent website at :http://www.thesoulinsideofme.co.uk

We hope to see you up in Chorley on the 27th July. Its free and on all day. Quality music, great company and great food and drink is all on offer. Lets hope the sunshine graces us with its presence.
